Apple will most likely introduce the next generation of iPhones in September. The iPhone 13 series could have some interesting new features inside. Now there are reports that Apple could give the devices WiFi 6E support.

WiFi 6E will be the first to use the 6GHz spectrum, doubling the available bandwidth for consumer devices. Router companies have already announced support for the new standard. Apple is now expected to equip this year's range of smartphones accordingly. Loud Digitimes Asia will use Apple WiFi 6E in the "iPhone 13" and bring big revenue gains to vendors in the second half of 2021. Android vendors are also expected to use the technology in upcoming smartphones to make the new WiFi standard mainstream.

iPhone 13 with WiFi 6E: Higher performance, lower latency

Suppliers Win Semiconductors, Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company (AWSC) and GaAs epi-wafer supplier Visual Photonics Epitaxy Company (VPEC) are being tapped for the WiFi 6E chips needed to power smartphone devices. These companies are key partners for processing 5G and WiFi 6E components for chipmakers such as Qualcomm, Broadcom and MediaTek. WiFi 6E offers the features and capabilities of WiFi 6, including higher performance, lower latency and faster data rates, extended to the 6 GHz band. The additional spectrum offers much more space than the existing 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi, resulting in more bandwidth and less interference for devices that support WiFi 6E. Of course, as always, it remains to be seen whether DigiTimes will be right in the end. (Photo by Unsplash / Frederik Lipfert)
