In recent years, there has been considerable speculation about who will succeed Tim Cook as Apple CEO. Cook himself recently confirmed that he will "probably" no longer be at Apple in 10 years.
In the latest Output In his "Power On" newsletter, Mark Gurman speculates about the future of Apple's CEO position, writing that many at Apple believe Cook wants to introduce "one more major new product category" before stepping down as Apple CEO. According to Gurman, Cook's focus will be on Apple's augmented reality glasses. Apple's hardware AR/VR efforts will likely be Cook's last major product category:
Tim Cook could retire between 2025 and 2028
At Apple, Cook is believed to want to stick around for another big new product category, which will likely be augmented reality glasses rather than a car - something even further in the future. He also knows that running a company in Silicon Valley is typically a young person's game, so he won't stick around long past his prime.
Gurman also confirmed that Apple is planning a mixed reality headset for 2022, with AR glasses also in development for release sometime in the middle of this decade. Gurman believes Cook will likely retire sometime between 2025 and 2028, as he also has a special contract that expires in 2025.
