The next generation of the iPhone SE is said to be released in 2022. But what innovations can we expect?

The existing iPhone SE is modeled on the iPhone 8 with a 4.7-inch display. There were rumors that Apple was working on an iPhone SE Plus that could be released later this year. But earlier this month, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said there would be no new iPhone in the SE series before 2022. Now display analyst Ross Young has spoken out reported and claims that the next model will also have the 4.7-inch panel. Young's information also suggests that there will be no update for the iPhone SE in 2021. He therefore agrees with Kuo's statement. According to his information, Apple's plan is to carry out a minor update in 2022 before a major redesign in 2023. Apple is allegedly working on a 6.1-inch version of the iPhone SE that has a hole-punch design instead of a notch. As a reminder, there is currently speculation that Apple could equip the flagship models with a hole-punch display in 2022.

Apple iPhone: Hole punch replaces notch

So - instead of a notch, a round hole. So it would make sense that the design change on the SE device would come at least a year later, after the flagship models had made their debut. The hole-punch design in question is something that Android manufacturers have been using for some time to maximize the available display area while leaving room for the front camera. On Apple's devices, this hole-punch will replace the current notch. Whether every fan will like it remains to be seen, however. But back to the iPhone SE 2022. It looks like the 2020 design will remain. According to Young, however, a better processor and 5G support (limited to sub-6GHz) can be expected. As always, whether he will be right in the end remains to be seen. (Photo by ADCstock / Bigstockphoto)
