The Touch ID fingerprint scanner was first introduced in 2013 with the iPhone 5s. Since then, Apple has equipped all new device generations with this technology – except for the iPhone X.
With the introduction of the iPhone X, a new biometric recognition was also installed - Face ID. Apple's facial recognition is the most advanced in the world and much more secure than Touch ID. Initially, there was suspicion that Apple would install a fingerprint sensor under the display in addition to Face ID - in order to offer two biometric decryption options.
No future for Touch ID
Although Apple made it clear last year that the future lies in Face ID, an old rumor is still circulating. Namely, that the iCompany wants to install Touch ID under the display. This technology is particularly well-known in the Android camp. Analyst Min Chi Kuo also doubts that Apple's fingerprint scanner will return.
At least in his latest letter to investors he is referring to the iPhone models of the coming year. Thanks to his good relationships with suppliers, he has often been right with his predictions in recent years. He also believes that Apple will continue to work on the TrueDepth camera. Androids, on the other hand, will continue to rely on this technology for a long time. However, this is also because only Apple has such 3D facial recognition so far. Kuo noted last year that other manufacturers would still need years to develop Face ID.
