For months we have been hearing rumors that Apple is planning to update the iPad mini series. To be precise, the iPad mini 6 is due to be released by the end of the year.

Rumour has it that Apple will introduce the iPad mini 6 this autumn. However, the small tablet is not just a small update. Now the US blog 9to5mac wants to provide some concrete information experience The blog reports, citing sources familiar with the matter, that the new iPad mini, codenamed J310, will be powered by Apple's latest A15 processor, will have a USB-C port, and will feature a magnetic Smart Connector. According to the sources, Apple plans to use the A15 chip in the new iPad mini. As a reminder, this chip will be used in this year's iPhone 13 lineup.

Support for peripherals is expanded

The A15 chip will use the same 5-nanometer manufacturing process as the A14. In addition, Apple is working on an A15X version that will be used in other iPad models - according to the blog. However, no further details were given. But back to the iPad mini 6. Like the iPad Pro and Air models, the device will have a USB-C port to support a wide range of peripherals and accessories. The redesigned device will also have a magnetic Smart Connector to enable the use of appropriate accessories. But that's not all. According to the source, Apple is also planning a new version of the entry-level iPad, which will be known under the code name J181. However, the device will be powered by the A13 chip. The current 10.2-inch entry-level iPad uses the A12 Bionic chip.

iPad mini 6 in new design

In terms of design, the entry-level model could be more in line with the iPad Air 3, which was originally released in 2019. Be that as it may. Bloomberg has already reported that Apple is working on a new iPad mini, which is due to be released later this year. The new iPad mini is expected to have slimmer edges and no home button. The device will basically look like the new iPad Air or iPad Pro. Instead of the Face ID component, it will rely on Touch ID in the standby switch. However, it is not yet known when the devices will finally be presented. (Image: Jon Prosser x Rendersbyan)
