Apple no longer ships power adapters with the iPhone, and the iPhone 15's move to USB-C with MFi requirements is expected to increase demand for compatible power adapters.

Since the iPhone 12 in 2020, Apple has stopped including USB power adapters in its products. This controversial move caused many users to resort to old chargers rather than switching to the new USB-C cables included in the box. However, when purchasing an iPhone 15, users may not have a choice. report According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has increased orders for its 20W USB-C charger by 120 percent for the second and third quarters of 2023. This is due to the company's optimism that there will be strong demand for 20W USB-C chargers. Customers will no longer be able to rely on their old Lightning cables or USB-A chargers when they purchase the iPhone 15. Kuo expects the number of 20W USB-C chargers sold to increase by 30 to 40 percent year-on-year, equivalent to 230 to 240 million units.

iPhone 15 series with USB-C: Lower charging speeds without MFi certification?

There are a number of third-party USB-C chargers on the market and many customers may already own several. However, Apple's MFi certification process could limit the functionality of non-certified products. According to Kuo, the MFi program could result in customers opting for Apple's 20W charger when purchasing an iPhone 15, even though there are many better options from accessory makers. It is unclear what the certification process for Apple's new USB-C MFi program will look like. Depending on how it is implemented, existing third-party chargers could be limited to lower charging speeds and require a new purchase to ensure maximum compatibility. The iPhone 15 is expected to launch in September 2023, with a similar spec to the iPhone 14. The iPhone 15 Pro Max could have rounded edges made of titanium and a periscope zoom lens.
