Apple's second and third chip versions of the M2 generation could hit the market in just a few months. According to a report, the MacBook Pro models equipped with the M2 Pro and M2 Max will be released in the fall.

At WWDC 2022, Apple introduced the M2 chip generation with updated MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro models, ushering in the influx of new hardware with the latest chip iteration. If a report is to be believed, more models could follow in just a few months. Loud According to Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter, Apple has an aggressive internal timeline for the M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. Packaged in an updated 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro, they could arrive in the fall or at least early 2023. Gurman claimed back in June that a MacBook Pro with M2 Pro would launch alongside the Mac mini. At the time, however, he said the updates would arrive within the next year and did not give a more specific timeline.

MacBook Pro series: The design remains the same

A fall refresh could come to the 14- and 16-inch models, but would risk making existing M1 Pro and M1 Max-based models obsolete sooner than is typical for Mac releases. Apple launched the first versions of Apple Silicon in fall 2021, so a fall 2022 update would be on a one-year cycle rather than the usual 1.5- or two-year cycle. As part of the upgrade, users shouldn't expect major physical changes, as the design "will likely remain roughly the same." The 14- and 16-inch models already benefit from a notched display, additional ports, MagSafe, and other features, so they're unlikely to undergo a MacBook Air-like transformation. (Image: Apple)
