Rumors that Apple is working on an iPhone with Touch ID under the display are nothing new. But there are observers who still doubt it. Now a leaker has fueled the issue again.

The anonymous Twitter account L0vetodream is known for his accurate and sometimes very cryptic leaks. But his hit rate is remarkable. In recent months he has shared many details about the iPhone 12 models, the Apple Watch Series 6 and the iPad Air 4, all of which have proven to be correct. Now he has spoken out again and promised Touch ID under the display. His message is quite cryptic but not entirely incomprehensible. The tweet states:

Apple's interest in Touch ID remains

"MESA uts for iPhone"

Anyone who doesn't follow the rumor mill regularly will not be able to make much sense of the statement. So here is the explanation. Apple's internal code name for Touch ID is "MESA". The abbreviation "uts" stands for "under the screen". According to this, he has repeated previous statements once again and announced an iPhone with Touch ID under the display. But when could Apple present the device? L0vetodream has not commented on this question for the time being. However, there are forecasts from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg that an iPhone with Touch ID and Face ID could appear as early as 2021. Apple's interest in the fingerprint scanner is not only documented by patents but also underlined by the iPad Air 4. The brand new tablet has an edge-to-edge display and continues to rely on Touch ID. The sensor was installed for the first time under the standby switch on the side of the device.

iPhone 12 orders with long waiting times – here's the "insider tip"

Since L0vetodream already has a high success rate with his predictions, there is currently little doubt about his statement. It remains to be seen whether the whole thing will be released next year or later. In the meantime, the pre-order phase for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro has started. Many of the Devices mean that waiting times of several weeks are required. So if you want to have a device in time for the market launch, should take a look at AmazonThe online mail order company still seems to have various models in stock. Anyone interested in the iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 12 Pro Max will have to be patient. Both versions can only be pre-ordered from November 6th. Delivery will start on November 13th. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
