Apple has been working on a foldable iPhone for years. Now, there's new information that's more concrete than ever. A leak from China reveals exciting details: The iPhone Fold will feature two high-resolution displays and an under-display camera in the inner screen. The project is slowly taking shape.

While other manufacturers have long since launched foldables, Apple is taking its time, as usual. The goal: a mature product without compromises. The well-known Weibo leaker "Digital Chat Station" is now providing new technical details that suggest the iPhone Fold is nearing its final design. The data shows that Apple doesn't just want to launch a foldable iPhone, but a sophisticated device with unique display solutions.

Two displays with different focus

According to the leak, the iPhone Fold will have two screens. The main internal display measures 7.76 inches diagonally. The resolution is 2,713 x 1,920 pixels. This results in a pixel density of 428 ppi. This makes the display almost as large as a small iPad mini, but foldable and housed in a smartphone case. The dimensions roughly correspond to an earlier estimate by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who in March spoke of a 7.8-inch internal display. This puts the new figure in line with previous rumors. For comparison: The current iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display with 2,868 x 1,320 pixels and a pixel density of 460 ppi. In terms of resolution, the iPhone Fold is on par, even if it lags slightly behind in pixel density. However, it offers significantly more screen space when unfolded.

The external display remains compact

When folded, the iPhone Fold reveals its compact side. The outer display measures 5.49 inches and has a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422 pixels. The pixel density is 460 ppi, which is on par with current iPhone displays. This should make the device feel pleasantly small in the hand when closed, comparable to the iPhone 13 mini, which was 5.4 inches. For comparison: The smallest iPhone of the current generation, the iPhone 16, starts at 6.1 inches. The Fold significantly undercuts that. Those who appreciate a compact format could find something to their liking here (via Weibo).

Under-display camera for the large display

In addition to the technical data for the displays, the leak also contains information about the camera. While the outer display will have a camera hole, presumably similar to the Dynamic Island in current models, according to Digital Chat Station, Apple is going a step further with the inner screen. Here, the front camera is said to be installed under the display. The under-display camera technology ensures that the camera remains invisible in everyday use, but can be used when needed. The display remains completely intact, without a hole or notch. This would mean Apple has found a solution that does not visually disrupt the large screen. This technology has often been the subject of leaks about Apple prototypes in the past, for example in connection with a foldable iPad. So the new hint fits the picture. If Apple uses the technology, it is probably market-ready and reliable.

iPhone Fold becomes more concrete

The information about the iPhone Fold no longer seems like pure speculation. The data on resolution, display size, and camera sound plausible and are technically feasible. Leaker Digital Chat Station has often been correct in the past, which further increases its credibility. If you're interested in new iPhone models or a fan of foldables, you should keep an eye on the iPhone Fold. The leaked data suggests that Apple could introduce a device in 2026 that is clearly different from previous iPhones – both technically and conceptually. (Photo by seveniwe / Bigstockphoto)
