This year, the new iPhone lineup is expected to be launched as an S version. Apple could make some changes under the hood, including in the area of WiFi.

Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Thomas O'Malley have published a new forecast regarding the iPhone 2021. In it, the analyststhat investor sentiment has become "too negative" toward Apple supplier Skyworks, as the semiconductor company is apparently set to supply various components for this year's "iPhone 2021" models, including Wifi 6E power amplifiers. In addition, the two stated that chipmaker Broadcom will also benefit from both Apple and Samsung launching Wifi 6E this year. Side note: Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy S21 Ultra smartphone with Wifi 6E support, based on a Broadcom chip.

iPhone 2021: Wifi 6E offers higher performance and more

Barclays already teased the launch of Wifi 6E in the 2021 iPhone last month. Wifi 6E offers the features and capabilities of Wifi 6, including higher performance, lower latency, and faster data rates, extended to the 6GHz band. The additional spectrum offers much more space than the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wifi, resulting in more bandwidth and less interference for devices that support Wifi 6E. Earlier this year, the FCC passed rules making 1,200MHz of spectrum in the 6GHz band available for unlicensed use in the US, paving the way for the launch of devices that support Wifi 6E in the country. Both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 support the standard, non-6GHz version of Wifi 6, as does the second-generation iPhone SE. (Photo by Denys Prykhodov / Bigstockphoto)
