A new report from the Nikkei Asian Review focuses on the next generation of iPhones, particularly Apple's entry into the 5G network.
The new Nikkei Asian Review report According to Apple, all three iPhone models could potentially be 5G compatible. Qualcomm's 5G modem chips from the X55 series would be considered. The new article states:
"To reclaim its crown as the world's most innovative technology company, Apple is mobilizing its suppliers to produce its first 5G iPhones next year, with the three flagship models also set to include the most advanced mobile processors and cutting-edge screens available. The upgraded iPhones, which Apple hopes will give the company a leg up on Huawei's current position as the second-largest smartphone maker, will also accelerate global carriers' buildout of 5G telecom infrastructure - especially outside China, which has already invested heavily in the emerging technology."
However, the report suggests more than just 5G iPhones. Other companies may see Apple's entry into the 5G world as a challenge and accelerate the development of their own 5G infrastructure. The Nikkei Asian Review also believes that Apple could sell around 80 million 5G iPhones next year.
"It will be the first time Apple offers 5G iPhones. There will be three of them and the company has set an aggressive sales target" – writes the financial newspaper, citing informed sources.

Analysts also believe that Apple's move into the 5G world will boost network operators' confidence. The result would be higher 5G investments. The new iPhones will most likely be equipped with Qualcomm's 5G modem chip from the X55 series. The Nikkei also claims to have learned something about the heart of the iPhone 2020 series. Apple is said to be planning to use an A14 chip based on 5-nanometer technology. According to Nikkei, two of the devices will have an OLED display, while the third iPhone will continue to have an LCD screen.
