As always, new iPhone models are expected this fall. Once again, three different models are set to be released. But what connection will the successors to the iPhone XS, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone XR have? Will it stick with Lightning or will it switch to USB-C?

So far, not many details about the specifications are known. A new camera system consisting of three lenses is to appear for the first time. A reduction in the notch is also conceivable - according to a leak at the beginning of the year. According to rumors, Apple is testing the first prototypes with a USB-C port. However, a new report from the Japanese blog Macotakara has dampened hopes of a change this year. According to the report, the next iPhone generation will also be equipped with the familiar Lightning port. Apple will also include the weak 5-watt charging adapter once again - this is what Macotakara writes, citing suppliers. But why would Apple postpone the change again? The Japanese blog has an answer to that too - namely cost savings. If the new iPhone had a USB-C port, Apple would have to adapt the EarPods and include a new adapter.

Better Live Photos

In addition to the additional costs, Apple also fears negative criticism. To avoid this, it is sticking with a Lightning port. The big innovation is said to be the triple camera. The three lenses can capture a wider field of view. A new technology should make it possible to capture more pixels - Live Photos should also be better as a result, with the recording time being increased from three to six seconds. Whether this will ultimately be the case remains to be seen - it's still a while until autumn.

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
