Apple is working hard on the next generation of iPhones. While the iPhone 16 is currently filling the shelves, there is already speculation about the iPhone 17 Air. The latest rumors suggest that this model could have a larger display than originally thought. There are also indications of a particularly thin design. Several well-known leakers and analysts have commented on this, including Ross Young and Ming-Chi Kuo. But which information is really reliable? Here is an overview of all the details so far.

Apple is known for its secrecy, but leaks from the supply chain and insider information often provide clues about new products long before the official announcement. In recent weeks, tech YouTuber Jon Prosser in particular has reported on the iPhone 17 Air. His sources have proven to be partly reliable in the past, but some details remain unclear. Other analysts such as Ross Young and Ming-Chi Kuo have also given their own assessments of the device.

Larger display than expected

A central point of the current rumors is the display size. Jon Prosser claimed, the iPhone 17 Air will have a 6.7-inch display. That would be a change from previous predictions. Last year, display expert Ross Young suspected that the device would have a 6.55-inch display - or 6.6 inches rounded up. If Prosser is right, Apple may have opted for a slightly larger display instead. Whether it will really be 6.6 or 6.7 inches remains to be seen. Even if the difference seems small at first glance, it could play a role in the design and handling of the device.

Extremely thin housing

Another notable rumor concerns the thickness of the iPhone 17 Air. Jon Prosser speaks of 5.64 mm, at least if the camera bar on the back is not included. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had given an even thinner figure: 5.5 mm at the thinnest point. This would make the iPhone 17 Air the thinnest iPhone ever and could even come close to the dimensions of the iPad Pro. For comparison: The iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25 mm thick. If the current figures are correct, the iPhone 17 Air would be about 30 percent thinner than the current Pro model.

New camera bar on the back?

The extremely thin design could lead to Apple revising the camera design. There is speculation about a camera bar on the back, similar to previous Google Pixel models. No technical details about the camera specifications are known so far. However, it can be assumed that Apple will further develop the camera system and possibly introduce new sensor technology or improved AI features.

New design for the camera app in iOS 19?

In addition to the hardware, there are also rumors about changes to the software. Jon Prosser claims that Apple will introduce a new camera app with iOS 19. This will be visually based on visionOS, the operating system of the Apple Vision Pro. If this turns out to be true, the camera app could get a completely new user interface. This could mainly affect usability and new functions.

iPhone 17 Air launch date

As usual, Apple is expected to present the iPhone 17 series in September. The exact date is not yet known, but the company has been sticking to a fixed rhythm for years. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be presented together with the other models in the series.

Apple focuses on size and minimalism – that's what the iPhone 17 Air could offer

The iPhone 17 Air could be the thinnest iPhone ever and come with a larger 6.7-inch display. The camera could be housed in a new bar, while iOS 19 may offer a revised camera app. Many details are still unclear, and not all leaks will come true. But more information is sure to emerge before the official presentation in the fall. Anyone waiting for a particularly slim iPhone with a large display should keep a close eye on the coming months.
