Apple could completely do away with the Dynamic Island in 2024. Display manufacturers are reportedly working on making Face ID for the iPhone 16 Pro work entirely under the display.

The infamous notch and the criticism surrounding it prompted Apple to develop the Dynamic Island concept for the iPhone 14 Pro. But the company is working to make the screen elements less problematic in the future. Rumors say that Apple will equip the iPhone 16 Pro with a full screen. It is believed that suppliers are actively working on some elements.

Face ID under the display: The implementation encounters problems

According to a report by The Elec according to the difficulty of creating a display that hides the camera sensors and elements behind the display itself without blocking the incoming light should not be a problem for the production of the iPhone 16 Pro. The reason for this is that Face ID under the display runs into the same problems that Samsung Display uses for the Galaxy Z Fold series display with an under-display camera. In this case, a front camera module is placed under the display and the opening for the camera lens is not visible during use. Since the technology exists for this purpose, it should be possible to extend it for Face ID.

iPhone 16 Pro: The Face ID rumors are not new

However, the specifications of the camera module capable of working with UPC are currently only enough for 4 million pixels, as the space is divided between supporting the display function and capturing external light sources. This is far from the 12 megapixels of the current TrueDepth camera array, but the situation is improving and by 2026 the resolution could be enough for Apple's purposes. The Elec is usually very accurate when it comes to rumors about the supply chain rather than product features. But in this case, the logic behind the report seems to be pretty good. Previous rumors also hinted at a hidden Face ID system. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF Securities and analyst Ross Young of DSCC have already commented on this. (Photo by SashaMagic / Bigstockphoto)
