This chip is expected to be manufactured on TSMC's impressive second-generation 3nm "N3E" process. In comparison, the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro was still based on the first-generation 3nm "N3B" process. Pu considers this a transitional design that is now being replaced by the more advanced A18 chip. The specific expectations are as follows:
- iPhone 16: A18 chip (N3E)
- iPhone 16 Plus: A18 chip (N3E)
- iPhone 16 Pro: A18 Pro Chip (N3E)
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: A18 Pro Chip (N3E)
According to TSMC, the N3E chip is not only more cost-effective but also has a better yield than its predecessor, the N3B. This could play an important role in Apple's decision to use the A18 chip in its next models.
