We have already read rumors that the iPhone 12 mini is selling poorly. Now it is reported that Apple will probably have to pay compensation to Samsung Display.

As The Korea Herald reports, Apple will likely have to pay compensation to Samsung Display. The reason for this is missed OLED panel purchase targets for the iPhone 12 mini. Samsung's OLED shipments fell 9 percent month-on-month to 45 million units worldwide in January, according to market data from Omdia. The decline is due to poor iPhone 12 mini sales. For this reason, Apple will most likely have to compensate the display supplier. An anonymous source explains opposite the Herald:

It is uncertain whether Apple would pay a penalty to Samsung Display, but given the contract history and sluggish sales of the iPhone 12 mini, it is likely that Apple will compensate Samsung.

According to analysts, the displays for the iPhone 12 mini will be manufactured exclusively by Samsung.

So if the purchase target was indeed missed, Apple will once again have to pay compensation. This would be the third time. Apple reportedly paid Samsung an estimated $683 million in 2019 and about $950 million in 2020 for similarly subpar OLED panel orders. Samsung remains the world's leading supplier of smartphone display panels and has supplied the overwhelming majority of OLED panels for Apple's iPhones in recent years. According to Omdia, global OLED panel shipments reached 53 million units in January, with Samsung Display accounting for 85 percent of that. Despite a spate of reports this year pointing to lackluster iPhone 12 mini sales, Apple is expected to continue to sell the small device this year. updated. At least so far, no reports to the contrary have been documented. (Image: Apple)
