Four iPhone models of the twelfth generation are due to be released this year. But the Corona crisis could put a stop to Apple's plans. The company is now said to be considering postponing the market launch of the iPhone 12.

Reports about the next iPhone generation are omnipresent. So far, observers assume that Apple will manage the whole thing despite the Corona crisis. But the company is said to be considering delaying the launch of the iPhone 12 - this is what the Japanese news site Nikkei Asian Review claims to have learned. According to the source, there are internal discussions about postponing the planned launch of the iPhone 12 by "several months". The reason for this is the timing. Apple fears that users may not be interested in an upgrade due to the Corona crisis. The report states:

Aside from supply chain constraints, Apple is concerned that the current situation would significantly reduce consumers' appetite for upgrading their phones, which could lead to modest reception of the first 5G iPhone," said a source with direct knowledge of the discussion.

Final decision expected in May

According to this, the source must be an insider if the whole thing is actually true. Apple is currently monitoring the spread of the novel coronavirus particularly closely. The focus is on the US and European markets. The first 5G iPhone is expected to be a hit and sales figures could be negatively affected by the global pandemic. In addition, the development progress could also become a problem, as Nikkei explains. This report contradicts a recent report by Bloomberg published articlethat the development of the iPhone 12 is still on schedule. Since both platforms have a very high hit rate, it is not possible to assess the current situation. However, a fall launch is not yet completely off the table - according to Nikkei. The final decision will not be made until May. If there is actually a change of plan, the iPhone 12 could, in the worst case, not appear until 2021. (Photo by Engdao / Bigstockphoto)
