The iPhone 12 series will consist of four devices in three different sizes. This is what various reports indicate. But now an analysis is causing confusion. Is Apple planning a fifth device or is the whole thing just a misunderstanding?

When it comes to the iPhone 12, most of the details seem to be known by now – even if nothing has been confirmed. Except for the delay. Apple itself recently explainedthat the "new iPhone models will appear a few weeks later than usual." But let's get back to the "facts." If the rumor mill is right, Apple will introduce a 5.4-inch, two 6.1-inch and one 6.7-inch iPhone. Two of the devices will be the successors to the iPhone 11, while the other two models will be the Pro version. However, they are all said to support 5G. But now Business Insider is reporting on a comment made by Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives. In the article is called it:

Apple may release a cheaper version of the iPhone 12 that offers 4G connectivity instead of support for 5G networks, according to a new research note from Wedbush Securities written by analysts Daniel Ives, Strecker Backe and Ahmad Khalil.

Wedbush originally expected Apple to launch a mix of 4G and 5G-capable versions of its iPhone 12 this fall. But the company revised its predictions following its recent supply chain reviews in Asia, saying it would expect multiple 5G iPhones in the fall and a cheaper 4G model in early 2021.

According to this, Wedbush believes that Apple will introduce another device in addition to the four iPhone 12 models in the fall of early 2021. However, this one will only use 4G but will be an iPhone 12. This comment is definitely strange and should be viewed with skepticism.

Confusion with the iPhone SE Plus?

On the one hand, Apple has already introduced an entry-level iPhone - the iPhone SE 2020. On the other hand, Wedbush is really alone with this forecast. There are indications that Apple wants to introduce another entry-level iPhone in 2021, but this has nothing to do with the iPhone 12 generation. According to various reports and some leaks, Cupertino could submit a Plus version (5.5-inch) of the iPhone SE 2020. Another indication why Wedbush could be wrong is the price forecast. The "cheaper" iPhone 12 with 4G is said to cost around 800 US dollars. This would make it more expensive than the two cheaper iPhone 12 models (5.4 and 6.1 inches / alleged starting prices: 649 and 749 US dollars), which presumably support 5G. On the whole, the Wedbush forecast causes a lot of confusion. There are also no statements that could support the whole thing. Therefore, this forecast should only be noted but not taken seriously.
