A new report suggests that the iPad will feature OLED by 2024 and Apple will use a method called dry etching to keep the display as thin as possible.
According to the report, Apple will use OLED in its iPad lineup, which is lightweight and offers better picture quality. Samsung and LG Display are expected to supply the panels. Korean ET News quoted an unnamed industry official said in response to the alleged report that "the domestic parts and equipment industry has high expectations for the expansion of the OLED iPad market." It seems that Apple will use the OLED dry etching process for the iPad, even though it is not used for the iPhone. This is because the OLED panels in the iPhone are much smaller, so the process is less necessary.

If Apple uses the dry etching process, it will drive up the unit cost, which may result in a more expensive iPad. This process uses chemicals to remove unnecessary parts while creating the circuit patterns of the thin-film transistors. ET News has also revealed that Apple is working on several prototypes of the OLED iPad. This means that Apple is nowhere near completing an OLED iPad and may never launch it. Other rumors suggest that the OLED iPad could launch in 2024, if it even exists.
