Apple could offer iPad Pro 2022 users more connection options for accessories. One rumor says that the tablet's body will be equipped with two "four-pin connectors."

The iPad Pro features a Smart Connector, a row of three exposed pins on the bottom back of the tablet that are used to connect to hardware like the Magic Keyboard. If the new rumor is true, the concept could be expanded for the upcoming iPad Pro model range. Chinese sources from Macotakara according to Apple plans to use two "four-pin" ports instead of the usual three-pin Smart Connector. The report claims that the new ports will be located at the top and bottom of the iPad Pro, but does not say where exactly they will be positioned.

iPad Pro 2022 could serve more accessories

It remains to be seen what the extra pin could be used for as part of a connection, considering Apple's existing pin-based ports. The report states that the extra pin could help transfer power between the iPad Pro and a connected accessory. Since the current Smart Connector uses three pins, the new port might not be compatible with three-pin accessories. MagSafe, another pin-based port used in the MacBook Pro, has five pins. While the number of pins in the rumor may be questionable, two ports provide the ability to connect smaller accessories to either end of the tablet. (Photo by Unsplash / Ernest Ojeh)
