The Taiwanese news site Economic Daily News reports that Innolux, a Taiwanese manufacturer, has received a large order from Apple. According to the report, Innolux provided various samples of mini-LED panels and subsequently received an order from Apple. These are specifically intended to be displays for the upcoming iPad Pro. Delivery is planned for the second half of the year, according to the report. This means that the Economic Daily News believes Apple will not unveil the new iPad Pro 4 until fall 2020. But this is now causing confusion. The majority of reports predict a March presentation of the new professional tablet without mini-LEDs and believe that the use of a new display technology will follow later.
Mini-LED technology better than OLED
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed months ago that Apple would introduce four to six products with mini-LED displays in the next two to three years. An iPad Pro could be the first to be introduced by the end of 2020. But he has since revised his prediction regarding the iPad Pro. According to Kuo, mini-LED technology will significantly improve productivity and the overall entertainment experience. The use of such technology could also enable thinner and lighter product designs. In addition, the advantages offered by OLED screens would not be lost, as mini-LEDs also have these, including a higher contrast ratio, higher brightness and deeper blacks.
