Apple originally planned to introduce a new smart home device this year, currently known as HomePad or Smart Home Hub. However, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the market launch has been delayed until at least the third quarter of 2025. This is due to software issues related not only to the new Siri AI, but also to adapting to the upcoming iOS 19. This decision demonstrates that Apple is determined to release the device only when it fits seamlessly into the Apple ecosystem.
Product delays are nothing unusual at Apple. But this time, it's not about production issues or hardware challenges, but about the software. Kuo explained that the development of the new homeOS, which the HomePad will run on, is more closely integrated with iOS 19 than initially thought. This could be one of the main reasons for the later release. In addition to the integration of Apple Intelligence, the new AI technology, the focus is also on the user interface of iOS 19. Apple wants to avoid a situation where the HomePad launches with software that would later require a major redesign.
Software problems as the main reason for the delay
Back in December 2024, Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that mass production of the new HomePod with display could be delayed. At the time, it was unclear whether this was due to hardware or software-related issues. Now, more details have emerged. The HomePad will rely heavily on the new Siri features that Apple originally announced for iOS 18.4 as part of Apple Intelligence. However, these AI features have been postponed until 2026, which directly impacts the HomePad. Siri will play a central role on the device, so the software must be fully developed before the HomePad is released (via X ).
But Siri isn't the only problem. Apple is adapting the user interface of its operating systems, and iOS 19 is set to receive a major redesign. Because the HomePad is closely tied to iOS 19, Apple doesn't want to release it until the design is stable. If Apple were to release the device sooner, the software might need to be revised again later.
