According to the report, the Apple manufacturer is investing a lot of money in researching the possible OLED successor. MicroLED technology is considered a possible successor to today's OLED screens. MicroLED technology is generally considered to be significantly better than OLED - Apple currently uses the latter in the Apple Watch, iPhone X and iPhone XS series. The new display technology has several advantages over OLED panels. MicroLEDs have a much longer lifespan and hardly lose any brightness, and the so-called burn-in problem is eliminated.
Furthermore, MicroLED screens do not require a backlight because the pixels themselves emit their own light – just like OLED screens.
Not in the near future
This means that they offer the same color saturation and contrast - the biggest advantage: they are more energy efficient. The fact that Apple is interested in this type of display technology has been mentioned several times in rumors in the past. A switch to MicroLED technology for the iPhone and Apple Watch is very likely, but not in the near future. It will probably be a few years before the technology is actually used.
