Apple is said to be continuously working on a foldable iPhone and iPad model and is already further along than many believe.
At least that’s what UBS claims in a new note to investors.

The Swiss major bank UBS has published a new note to investors in which the topic of foldable iPhone and iPad devices is discussed in detail. The Swiss asset managers claim that Apple is continuously working on such technology. Several patents in the past have already confirmed that Apple is actually interested in such technology. (This is what the foldable iPhone could look like / This is intended to protect the folding mechanism from cold) UBS believes that a foldable Apple product could be launched next year. However, the bank believes that "2021 is more likely." According to the analysts, the first foldable Apple product will be an iPad rather than an iPhone.

A third of Apple fans are said to be interested

For Apple, the folding technology poses fewer problems than the price itself - according to UBS. According to a survey, Apple customers would be willing to pay around 600 US dollars more - the limit would actually be 2,000 US dollars. However, it is hardly realistic that Apple could offer such an iPad for 2,000 US dollars - according to the Swiss asset manager. There is definitely more potential here.

“Price remains the most important hurdle in the minds of most consumers, while the reasonable average premium compared to conventional smartphones is around $400-500,” say UBS analysts.

In addition to the willingness to pay more, the survey also showed that interest in foldable Apple devices is higher than expected. More than a third of fans are said to be interested. Whether Apple will actually introduce a foldable iPhone or iPad remains to be seen, of course. But one thing is certain - Cupertino will only introduce such a device when it is really ready for the market - as fans are used to from Apple. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
