Facebook is reportedly planning to change its name to better reflect Mark Zuckerberg's goal of creating a "metaverse," The Verge reports.

If the report is to be believed, Facebook is aiming for a name change. The whole thing could be announced as early as next week. report is it [called:

The upcoming name change, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to talk about at the annual Connect conference on Oct. 28 but could be announced sooner, is intended to signal the tech giant's ambition to be known for more than just social media and its associated ills. The rebranding would likely position the blue Facebook app as one of many products under a parent company that oversees groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and others. A Facebook spokesperson declined to comment.

Facebook: What will the name of the new brand be?

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to change the way people think about Facebook, moving from being just a social media company to a "metaverse company." The name change comes at a time when Facebook is under increasing scrutiny after a whistleblower released several of the social media company's internal documents.

A rebrand could also serve to distance the futuristic work Zuckerberg is focusing on from the intense criticism Facebook is currently facing for the way it operates. Frances Haugen, a former employee turned whistleblower, leaked a series of incriminating internal documents to the Wall Street Journal and testified about them before Congress.

It is not entirely clear what Facebook's new name and brand might be. The Verge reports that even some of Facebook's senior executives do not know the name, but speculates that it might have something to do with "Horizon." So the whole thing should remain exciting.
