While the rumor mill was dominated by the iPhone 11, things were very quiet about the next generation of Apple Watch. But now there are new details about the Apple Watch Series 5 display.

Only today notes on new Apple Watch models in the seventh watchOS 6 beta - now there is also something to say about the display. The well-known and accurate star analyst Ming-Chi Kuo referred to a report from April and repeated his statement to Chinese media. According to this, around 20 percent of the OLED screens for the Apple Watch Series 5 are said to come from Japan Display. He already announced in April that the producer would be involved - now it is official. Kuo also believes that the share will increase in the near future. According to his information, Japan Display is to take over the complete production of the Apple Watch panels - this could be the case in as little as two years - according to the analyst.

Apple is the most important customer

Japan Display combines the resources of Hitachi, Sony and Toshiba to manufacture the screens in order to be able to compete better with Samsung and LG Display. High investments in LCD production and a late switch to OLED affected the company's prospects, which ultimately led to a restructuring of Japan Display. The rescue operation cost around 80 billion yen (738 million US dollars) - of which around 100 million US dollars are said to have come from Apple. With 60 percent of total annual sales in 2018, Cupertino is considered the most important customer. (Photo by Unsplash)
