Rumors about a mixed reality headset and similar products have been with us for several years. In recent months, however, the reports have increased dramatically. Now an analyst has something new to report.
In a letter to investors, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that production of the VR/AR headset is expected to be delayed due to its complex design. Kuo claims that Apple's industrial design requirements for the new head-mounted display are "much higher than competitors' products." The analyst says that Apple wants to have a solid ecosystem of hardware, software and services at market launch. Therefore, the product launch could be delayed.
Apple VR/AR: How much will the mixed reality headset cost?
Based on sources in Apple's supply chain, Kuo believes that mass production of Apple's new headset will begin in the fourth quarter of 2022, compared to the previous plan for the second quarter of 2022. According to his current knowledge, the Taiwanese company Young Optics is one of the possible component suppliers for Apple's new product. Kuo also explains that Apple intends to position the new mixed reality headset not only as a gaming device but also for other applications. According to Kuo, Apple's solution is expected to have "the best industrial design yet." According to previous reports, Apple's new augmented and virtual reality headset will feature 4,000 DPI displays and advanced LiDAR scanners.
