Apple is said to be working on a 5G iPad Pro with mmWave support – at least that’s what a new rumor claims.

The well-known and somewhat controversial DigiTimes has come back with a new rumor about the iPad Pro. In the report, the news platform quotes an unnamed source who claims that Apple is working on a 5G iPad Pro with mmWave support. DigiTimes did not go into detail about the model and did not predict a specific release date this time - a good decision given the fact that the dates given so far have always been wrong. Since the upcoming iPhone lineup has already been rumored to have 5G technology, it would not be so unlikely that the upcoming iPad Pro could also have the technology, even if the presentation of the professional tablet is expected in spring 2020. Although the iPhone usually gets new features before the iPad, an exception cannot be ruled out this year.

What exactly does mmWave support mean?

The third generation iPad received LTE technology back in 2012, before the iPhone 5. Many observers currently believe that the new iPhone models will not have the same 5G technology. There is a choice of sub-6 GHz and mmWave. Although sub-6 GHz is slower than mmWave 5G technology, it has a greater range - suitable for rural areas. Since mmWave is faster but has a shorter range, this technology is more intended for large cities or urban areas. If Apple gives the upcoming iPad Pro 5G support, it will be interesting to see which technology the company will choose. By the way - DigiTimes has announced further details. When exactly these will be published remains to be seen - we will report as usual. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
