Apple is about to introduce a redesigned Mail app for macOS, which is scheduled to be released with the upcoming version macOS 15.4. The update promises not only a modern design but also practical functions that make dealing with emails easier. After the new app is introduced on the iPhone in December 2024, the redesign will now also be available for the Mac and later for the iPad.

With regular updates, Apple shows again and again how important the user experience is to the company. The email app has been standard on all devices for years and is used by millions every day. The new design and improved functions are not only intended to provide a better overview, but also to make managing messages more efficient thanks to artificial intelligence (AI). What is particularly interesting is that the new functions that were previously only available to iPhone users are finally coming to the Mac.

What you need to know about the new Apple Mail app

The new design and functions in detail

Apple has given the Mail app a redesign that not only looks great but also offers new tools for organizing your emails. Here are the most important new features:

AI-supported sorting:

The new app automatically analyzes your incoming messages and sorts them into categories such as:

  • main category
  • transactions
  • Offers
  • updates
  • All emails

This automatic classification helps you keep track and find important messages faster.

Cross-platform integration:

After launching the app on the iPhone, Apple is now bringing the features to the Mac. iPad users will also soon benefit from the new features. The aim is to create a consistent experience on all devices, as Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported.

Optimization through AI:

In addition to sorting into categories, the AI also prioritizes the most important messages and highlights them for you. This saves time, especially if you receive a lot of emails every day.

release dates and availability

The beta version of macOS 15.4 is expected in the next few weeks, with a final release in April 2025. Mac users who register for Apple's beta program can test the new Mail app earlier. There are no exact dates for iPad users yet, but it is assumed that the app will be released with iPadOS 18.4. This would bring all Apple devices up to date with the latest Mail app technology.

Important for users in Germany

The new design of the app is currently only available if the system language is set to English. For German users, the switch to iOS 18.4 could help, as the update is expected to include the localization of the design for the German market.

A significant step for Apple users

The new Mail app is more than just a visual update. It brings features that help you organize your emails faster and more efficiently. The AI-supported sorting and prioritization in particular are practical tools that will make your everyday life easier. Apple is starting the rollout on the Mac with macOS 15.4 and iPad users will soon also benefit from the new app. The best accessories in one place - our Amazon Storefront! (Image: Apple)
