Apple is expected to shed some light on its top-secret internal project called “Project Titan,” a codename for a self-driving car, in the next three to six months, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives.
Ives commented opposite to CNBC, in which he reiterated Wedbush's belief that Apple won't launch a self-driving car before 2024. The analyst believes that even if it's released in a few years, the company needs to release "some information" in advance to "lay the groundwork for an Apple Car." Accordingly, Ives believes Apple will publicly comment on its future car ambitions sometime this summer. Asked about the timeframe, Ives says Apple first needs to find "the partners" for its self-driving car.
Apple Car: Apple could enter into partnership with LG and Magna
This statement is consistent with rumors that the tech giant is in talks with several automakers to produce the Apple Car. Apple has reportedly been working on a self-driving car for several years. A series of reports earlier this year all but cemented this. The Apple Car, which according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo will not launch until 2023 at the earliest, is expected to be produced and manufactured by a third-party company. However, the product will be marketed under the "Apple" brand. According to this, the Apple Car is expected to follow the iPhone's example.
