Rumors about AirPods Pro 2 have been with us for many months. Now the well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has spoken out and published some details.

In a new letter to investors, Kuo is predicting the launch of the AirPods Pro 2 in 2022. However, he did not give a specific time frame. Looking ahead, the analyst believes that the AirPods have a competitive advantage in their ability to grow through ecosystem extensions such as Siri or through new “innovative AirPods experiences” such as health monitoring. It is rumored that Apple will integrate more advanced motion sensors into its top audio wearable, with the Company could one day use more biometric technologies. In addition, Kuo believes Apple's dual-brand strategy will become increasingly important as the company tries to capture the attention of Android users.

MediaTek chip offers several advantages

AirPods are higher priced, target Apple device users, and aim to provide innovation and eco-experience to increase value. Beats are lower priced, target Apple and non-Apple device users, and increase shipments and market share.

The latest Beats device, the recently released Beats Studio Buds, uses a 22nm MediaTek chip instead of Apple's own H1 silicon. This offers several advantages, including shorter development times, lower costs and differentiation from the AirPods, Kuo said. If the Beats Studio Buds perform well, Apple could rely more heavily on MediaTek solutions than its own chips in future Beats products, the analyst said.

AirPods Pro 2 in new design

Previous reports from Bloomberg have suggested that the second generation of AirPods Pro will have a more compact design that eliminates the short stem that protrudes from the bottom. The new Pro version of the earbuds could have a rounded shape that is more similar to earbuds from companies like Google and Samsung. However, this change is not certain. According to reports, Apple is facing several challenges related to the internals. If this does not work out as planned, the AirPods Pro 2 could feature a "less ambitious redesign".
