According to a new report, Apple plans to introduce the AirPods Pro 2 in the second half of 2022. Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims to have learned this.

While the second generation AirPods are still available, even though the third generation has been available since last year, things might be a little different with the Pro series, so Kuo. This means that when Apple introduces the AirPods Pro 2, the company will most likely discontinue the previous models. Apple announced the AirPods Pro on October 30, 2019 - so they are almost two and a half years old.

Will Apple introduce a new chip?

Kuo also said that demand for the third-generation AirPods is "significantly weaker" than that for the second-generation AirPods, which has led Apple to reduce its orders for the third-generation AirPods from suppliers by at least 30% in the second to third quarters of this year. Kuo has previously claimed that the second-generation AirPods Pro will have a "significantly improved" wireless chip compared to the H1 chip in the original AirPods Pro. The chip controls audio-related features such as active noise cancellation. Improvements to this technology could lead to improved battery life, allowing for longer listening time per charge.

AirPods Pro 2 could get new motion sensors

Kuo also expects the new AirPods Pro to support lossless audio on Apple Music. Kuo has also claimed that the new AirPods Pro charging case will be able to emit a sound to help users find it if they misplace it. It's likely that the charging case will also be water-resistant, like the AirPods 3. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and Debby Wu have previously reported that Apple has been testing a more compact design for the new AirPods Pro that would do away with the stems under the earbuds entirely. If this is the final design, the new AirPods Pro could look similar to the Beats Studio Buds that Apple unveiled last year. Gurman and Wu also claimed that the new AirPods Pro will come with motion sensors to enable fitness tracking alongside the Apple Watch. (Photo by Unsplash / Jatin Jangid)
