2019 iPhone: Old features – new design? That's what an analyst says

In September it's that time again - Apple's keynote, the hottest show of the year. At the moment, three iPhone models are expected again. But this time there's a special feature - it's not new.

Atherton Research analyst Jean Baptiste Su has commented on the upcoming iPhone generation in a report for Forbes. The analyst is not particularly well-known, however, so his statements should be treated with caution. However, he mentions several points that have been doing the rounds in Apple's rumor mill for some time. For example, the upcoming top smartphones from Apple will initially be equipped with USB-C. Since several Apple devices already have such a connection, MacBook and iPad Pro, the switch is conceivable. In addition to the new connection, the new iPhone models will be equipped with two types of authentication. Many observers consider this rather unlikely. Nevertheless, this rumor persists, as a corresponding Apple patent appeared in mid-December.

Two authentication types in one device

This patent deals with Apple's well-known fingerprint sensor and TrueDepth camera. The patent shows many of the already known applications of Face ID. Nevertheless, Apple notes in the description that Touch ID could serve as a replacement.

If, for example, recognition by Face ID were not successful, the fingerprint sensor could step in. Accordingly, Touch ID should be built into the display - as smartphone manufacturer Huawei has already done with its Mate 20 Pro.

iPhone X with slightly revised design

The analyst also believes that Apple will slightly revise the design of the upcoming iPhone. According to him, the notch will not disappear completely but will be smaller. It remains to be seen whether Su will be right.
