A series of bugs, including those found in macOS 11.3 and 11.3.1, are causing seemingly random problems when browsing websites in Apple's Safari 14.1 and other browsers.
According to several users in the Apple Support forums report, the Safari 14.1 update is disrupting functionality on popular websites like eBay. The issue seems to primarily affect Safari 14.1 on macOS Catalina and macOS Mojave. Developers have also reported ongoing issues with the latest versions of Apple's browser. Google Chrome developer advocate Jake Archibald reports that localStorage is broken in Safari 14.1, causing tabs with the same localStorage to use text fields. Other reports indicate that Safari 14.1 for macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina also has issues with WebAuthN. According to Eclectic Light, Apple pulled the Safari 14.1 update for these two macOS versions on May 1st.

However, in the meantime, reports have been documented that these problems are also present in macOS Big Sur and Safari 14.1. In addition to Safari, Firefox and Google Chrome are said to be affected. As far as possible solutions go, there do not seem to be any surefire solutions. Some users report that disabling JavaScript in Safari settings can fix some of the problems. Advice from other users suggests that a clean reinstall of the operating system solves the problem.
