Microsoft today announced a blog post revealed the specifications of the Xbox Series X – a real beast. Will Tuttle writes:
A few months ago, we announced Xbox Series X, our fastest, most powerful console ever, designed for a console generation that puts you, the gamer, at the center. When Xbox Series X releases this holiday season (late 2020), it will set new standards for power, speed, and compatibility, while allowing you to take your gaming heritage with you and play thousands of games across four generations.
According to this, the heart of the next-gen console from Microsoft is an AMD Zen 2 CPU with 3.8 GHz and eight cores. The GPU is an AMD RNDA 2 with a clock frequency of 1.825 GHz, which offers around 12 teraflops of performance and consists of 52 processing units. According to Microsoft, the CPU and GPU were placed on a SoC [System on a Chip] that was manufactured using the 7nm manufacturing process. The Xbox Series X has a total of 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB internal SSD.
"The most powerful Xbox ever"
If that's not enough for you, you can easily expand the storage by another 1 TB thanks to an additional slot. In the blog post, the Xbobx is described as "the most powerful Xbox of all time". The new beast also has a lot to offer in terms of graphics. The article states:
Today, gamers increasingly demand games that run at 60 frames per second (fps) with high visual fidelity and precise, responsive input. Developers have come up with creative solutions, such as dynamic resolution scaling, to maintain high image quality while not compromising on frame rate, but this is often done to get around the limitations and constraints of current-gen hardware. That will change with Xbox Series X. But it's not just about making games look better. It's also about making games better.
With Smart Delivery function
According to this, the new Xbox Series X has native 4K at 60 FPS. But that's not all - Tuttle notes that the new console supports up to 120 FPS. This means that game developers have enough leeway when it comes to the graphic design of big blockbuster titles. Finally, it is explained:
"In addition, the team designed the system to enable cross-generation multiplayer and introduce new features like Smart Delivery, which ensures you only need to buy a title once, knowing you're getting the best version of the title on the Xbox console you want to play on. This allows players to seamlessly move between multiple consoles and console generations as they see fit.
