The next World Wide Developer Conference will kick off on Monday, June 22, 2020. Now a leaker has brought the term "iPhone OS" into play.
New versions of iOS, tvOS, watchOS, and macOS are introduced at WWDC. Last year, Apple caused a big surprise when it unveiled iPadOS 13. Although it's based on iOS, it focuses entirely on the iPad's features. Now, Apple could transition from iOS 14 to "iPhone OS" this year. The name, however, isn't new. When the first iPhone was introduced in 2007, the operating system was called "iPhone OS." The transition to iOS wasn't paved until 2010 with the introduction of the first iPad.
iOS 14 = iPhone OS 14 & iPadOS 14?
Now Jon Prosser, an Apple leaker, has a new Tweet with the content "iPhone OS." That's enough to spark a lot of speculation. Will Apple return to the old name this year? Given the "iPadOS" branding, that would only be fair. So, iOS 14 could specifically include "iPhone OS 14" and iPadOS 14." But what exactly will happen to the iPod touch? Will it run iPhone OS?
