Samsung and LG are preparing their factories for mass production of the first iPads with OLED displays, reports the South Korean newspaper ETNews.

By report The displays are called "hybrid" panels because they use a combination of flexible and rigid OLED technologies. Apple plans to launch new 13-inch MacBook Air, 11.1-inch iPad Pro, and 13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays in 2024, according to Ross Young, a display industry analyst familiar with Apple rumors. Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also expects the first MacBook with an OLED display next year. Young previously said the new MacBook Air and iPad Pro models will use "two-stack" OLED displays with two red, green, and blue emission layers for more brightness. He also said all devices will support ProMotion for a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

The next iPad Pro generation will use OLED technology

All current iPads and MacBooks come with backlit LCD screens while OLED screens have self-lit pixels and do not require a backlight, allowing for a higher contrast ratio, greater color accuracy, and lower power consumption. Apple already uses OLED displays for the latest models of the Apple Watch and iPhone, with the exception of the iPhone SE. The Apple Watch Ultra is expected to switch to a microLED display in 2024, with more Apple products to follow in the coming years. microLED is the next display technology Apple will use after OLED, paving the way for even higher contrast ratios, more brightness, and lower power consumption.
