Production of the upcoming Apple Watch Series 7 has been delayed, according to a new report, citing the "complicated design."
A new Nikkei Asia report According to Apple, suppliers began small-scale production of the new smartwatch last week, with employees "encountering critical challenges in achieving satisfactory production performance." The report states:
Complex design causes quality problems
Makers of the Apple Watch Series 7, as the device is expected to be called, began small-scale production last week but encountered critical challenges in achieving satisfactory production output, several people familiar with the situation said.
Three sources claim that the current disappointing production quality is due to the complexity of the design, which is significantly different from that of previous generations of the watch, with assemblers having problems assembling electronic modules, components and displays.
Deliveries could be delayed
Due to the complex design, which rumors suggest will feature flat bezels and larger displays, Apple suppliers have "temporarily halted" production of the new watch as engineers attempt to "further certify the designs before entering mass production." According to Nikkei Asia, the Apple Watch Series 7 will be equipped with a blood pressure monitoring function, which is apparently one reason for the production halt. In particular, the hardware that will enable blood pressure monitoring must "meet water resistance requirements, which further increases the technical and production challenges." Apple is rumored to be planning a virtual event in mid-September where Cupertino plans to unveil the iPhone 13 and the Apple Watch Series 7.
