Apple is working on an update to the affordable entry-level iPad that will expand the device's functionality.
According to the US blog 9to5Mac Apple's 10th generation iPad will include several updates that will bring it in line with the rest of the iPad lineup. The 2022 iPad is expected to have a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port, which would extend the USB-C port to the entire iPad lineup. The iPad Air, iPad Pro, and iPad mini already come with USB-C, making the iPad the only tablet to use Lightning. The updated device is expected to have a larger 10.5-inch display, which would be an upgrade from the current 10.2-inch display.
New entry-level iPad to be introduced in autumn
Display analyst Ross Young, who often provides accurate information about Apple's display plans, has confirmed that the entry-level iPad will have a 10.5-inch display. Apple plans to equip the iPad with the A14 Bionic chip. The A14 was first used in the iPhone 12 and the fourth-generation iPad Air and will deliver higher performance compared to the A13 in the current model. In addition to updating the display and processor, Apple will equip the iPad with 5G connectivity so that it can connect to 5G networks. There is no information yet on the design updates. Accordingly, it remains unclear whether Apple will add a Touch ID power button or stick with the home button. Apple is expected to unveil the low-cost iPad in the fall.
