Apple presents the new versions of macOS, iOS, watchOS and tvOS every year at the WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference). The mobile operating system iOS is attracting a lot of interest. This year Apple should present the next major iOS version - namely iOS 13. After iOS 12, according to Apple, was supposed to be a pure performance update with only a few new features, iOS 13 is eagerly awaited. The main focus of iOS 12 was on optimizing performance and improving battery life. Apple also introduced screen time and smaller innovations such as Facetime for groups. The updates were repeatedly plagued with bugs, some of which were serious - to the annoyance of many users. Of course, expectations for iOS 13 are particularly high.
Dark Mode
The news portal 9to5mac claims to have learned more details about iOS 13 from insiders. According to them, the long-awaited dark mode is finally being introduced. So far, night mode is only available under macOS. If this is actually the case, the user will be able to change the interface from the basic color white to black - particularly useful for iPhones with OLED displays. Since OLED displays have no backlight, they can switch off individual pixels independently of one another - this is what makes it possible to display true black tones. In addition, a black pixel consumes hardly any power compared to an actively used pixel. A dark mode would therefore be an absolute asset.
New features for iPads
According to the report, the iPad will also benefit more than ever from iOS 13. Among other things, Apple is planning the "Window" feature. This will allow users to have multiple tabs of a specific app open at the same time – similar to the principle of Safari on the Mac. Split View will also be included. In addition to the interface, Apple wants to optimize file management. The undo function will also be updated. Until now, users have to shake their iPhone and iPad to undo an action – with iOS 13, this will change for iPads. According to 9to5mac, the feature will be controlled with a new gesture. A three-finger tap with a swipe gesture on the keyboard area will trigger this command.
Further improvements
Under iOS 13, Safari on iPads will also become more flexible - according to insiders, the user will be asked whether they want to see the mobile or desktop version of a website. This will prevent a forced switch to an app, such as with YouTube. In addition to Safari optimization, a new font management system will also be introduced.
Apple's Mail app is also expected to benefit from iOS 13. According to the report, the app is set to become smarter. Emails will be sorted into categories such as shopping, travel, marketing, unimportant, etc. There will also be a "read later" section. In addition to many other optimizations, Siri is also set to become more intelligent—along with some new features, it will also become more discreet. Currently, Apple's voice assistant can be suddenly awakened by various sounds—a "Hey Siri" isn't always necessary, but that's set to change. WWDC 2019 (World Wide Developer Conference) will take place from June 3rd to 7th at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose.
