Apple is reportedly developing a new Apple Watch model with a larger display and a more robust metal case aimed at the extreme sports market.

The new Apple Watch will have a screen with a diagonal of almost two inches, offering 7 % more screen space than the current models, as Bloomberg reported. It will be made of a stronger metal than aluminum, although it is not clear which metal exactly will be used. The more robust design will also include a larger battery and a display with increased shatter resistance. Despite the larger size, the Apple Watch will not be a "50mm" model, as this refers to the case height and not the screen size. Bloomberg reports that the extreme sports model will be released alongside a regular Apple Watch Series 8, which will retain its 1.9-inch screen diagonal.

Apple Watch Series 8 could measure body temperature

An update to the entry-level version of the Apple Watch SE will retain the current screen size of 1.78 inches. This is not the first time the publication has reported on an Apple Watch for extreme sports. However, an earlier prediction that said the new model could launch in 2021 has not come true. All new Apple Watch models in 2022 will receive an updated S8 processor, which is said to have similar performance to the S7 chip. The rugged variant and the regular Apple Watch Series 8 will also receive the ability to measure the user's body temperature to detect fever, as well as other health and fitness updates. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
