The repair experts at iFixit have now also provided the teardown of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. It becomes clear – the camera is really bigger.

iFixit has already disassembled the iPhone 12 / 12 Pro and 12 mini - now it's the turn of the high-end model. The teardown shows some unique differences in the design of the internals, including the full extent of the larger camera system, which is responsible for the improved performance in low light conditions. When opening the device, the first obvious difference compared to the iPhone 12 Pro is the presence of an L-shaped battery. This was first used in the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The battery in the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the largest battery in the iPhone 12 series at 14.13Wh. However, the battery is slightly smaller than the one in the iPhone 11 Pro Max at 15.04Wh. But the camera module impressed the repair experts the most. This is what the report:

iPhone 12 Pro Max is easy to repair

Sorry to break it to you, but size does matter—at least when it comes to camera sensors. To achieve the claimed 87%ige improvement in low-light performance, the 12 Pro Max uses the largest sensor in an iPhone yet.

As can be seen from the X-ray images, the standard widescreen camera (bottom left of the group of three) has a 47% larger 12-megapixel sensor than the iPhone 12, allowing more light to enter, resulting in better images. The four magnets surrounding it also highlight the presence of Apple's brand new sensor-shift image stabilization system, which moves the sensor a thousand times per second to compensate for hand shake. Further on, iFixit highlights the more compact design of the logic board compared to the iPhone 12. In addition, the modular SIM tray is described as "excellent for repairs". Overall, iFixit gives the high-end device six out of a possible ten points in terms of repairability. Have you already discovered the early Black Friday offers on Amazon? Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
