Late last year, Google's 2FA app received a major iOS update that introduced a new design and dark mode as well as bulk account transfers. Now, Google Authenticator has received a new update that increases security.

Version 3.2.0 of the Authenticator adds Google's privacy feature. Similar to Drive, the user must authenticate using either Touch ID or Face ID before the list of 2FA codes is displayed. In the app settings, you can set whether authentication should take place immediately, after 10 seconds, one minute, or 10 minutes. Face ID or Touch ID was previously only required before exporting accounts from the Google Authenticator.

Use the search bar to retrieve login information faster

In the meantime, Google has expanded the account transfer feature - useful when setting up new devices - to more than 10 accounts per QR code generation. This should be a big time saver for those who have many online accounts stored. In addition, the app now has a search bar to quickly retrieve specific login details. You can find the full update description below.

Google Authenticator version 3.2.0:

  • Transferring multiple accounts to another device is now possible.
  • Searching for accounts is now possible.
  • The privacy feature can now be activated.

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
